A small sake cup with underglaze gosu (impure cobalt ore) brush decoration of Arrowleaf plant (Omodaka). Feldspathic clear glaze, wood fired for 52 hours.

This cup is made from Izumiyama porcelain, the first porcelain discovered in Japan more than 400 years ago. It is rarely used today due to its expense and the challenges it presents, however it has a beautiful soft pink fire color in the wood kiln and I find it worth working with, despite the challenges.

Stamped and signed kiribako (wood box), protective cloth included.
